Andre 3000 - Oh Peanut
Andre 3000 - The Crayon Song
Did you know that Andre 3000 has a new solo record on shelves right now? No? Blame Jive and their piss-poor promotion for all things Outkast since the duo switched labels from Def Jam. 2006's Idlewild, while not the album of the year contender that most Outkast albums are, was still very solid and deserved better than the half-assed push it was given during the few weeks the movie ran in theaters. Way to drop the ball on a couple of legends, Jive.
There is another good reason why Class of 3000: Music Volume One is flying under the mainstream radar and that's because it's a soundtrack for Andre's Cartoon Network kids show of the same name. If the idea of Dre rapping, sanging and performing in his unique style within the context of a cartoon seems interesting, well, it is. Jazz, blues, big band, space funk, hip-hop and more make an appearance - it's as thematically cohesive and musically diverse as The Love Below but certainly on another level of quirkiness and kid friendliness than what we've grown accustomed to. Still, Class of 3000 is an essential listen for Kast fans just to see what the man has been up to recently (it's rumored that Big Boi is currently in the studio with Danger Mouse to record another solo record of his own).
