The Rapture - The Devil
The Rapture - Don Gon Do It
Pieces of The People We Love is a disco pop trip the likes of which have not been attempted since, eh, probably a few months ago. You won't hear me complaining, it's a proven schtick that's yet to wear too thin - at least fer my tastes. The Rapture have been keeping a low profile since taking NME and the indie crowd by storm in 2003 with House of Jealous Lovers and Echoes, allowing contemporaries like Franz Ferdinand and Kasabian to take the baton and run with it. The new record is smashing fun all around, even if much of the noise contained within will be familiar stuff to Junior Senior fans, Duran Duran fans, or Bee Gees fans. What can I say, I'm a sucker for squeaking synths and four on the floor beats. When you're writing songs as good as The Devil, why even worry over the influences anymore?
