it's the first of the month

Another month, another episode of Benzi Box radio. December's playlist has a holiday slant to it (as playlists are wont to do this time of year) though not annoyingly so, at least in my opinion. Everyone loves a good Christmas song right? The same can't be said for Chanukah or Kwanzaa festivities, whose sounds are scarce on the airwaves and in department stores and on this site as well. Maybe next year.
As for the other selections, there's brand new tracks from Gruff Rhys' next solo outing and Field Music's upcoming record, both due in January. For your soul fix, two recent gems from Alice Russell & Quantic Soul Orchestra and Nicole Willis & the Soul Investigators alongside a lost classic from Moovers. Hip Hop music from The Beatnuts, Tribe, Ghostface and Madlib, an early Doves song recorded back when they were the Manchester dance trio Sub Sub, a B-Side to Demon Days. Erasmo Carlos and Fela Kuti keeping things worldly, as are the usual suspects from England and other European nations. Tom Waits at his delightfully creepiest closes things out.Enjoy the winterly music as 2006 comes to a close, I won't be posting my 31 favorite albums like last December but I will throw notable tracks from the past year out there before '07 comes round.
