Field Music - Give It, Lose It, Take It
Field Music - A House Is Not A Home
Field Music - Kingston
Field Music - Working to Work
2006, that's the old hat. Here's some stuff from the future, from the year twenty-oh-seven. It's Tones of Town, the new record from Field Music. Hailing from Sunderland in the U.K., they self produce their albums and are now following up their 2005 debut. The group has a great sound that's owes a lot to Brian Wilson and Paul McCarntney but also to the likes of British 80's pop outfits like 10cc and Tears for Fears. They aren't afraid of a little synthesizer squiggle. Pretty interesting for the most part and it gets better with repeat listens.
Album opener Give It, Lose It, Take It has all the hallmarks of Rush on their best days, which for me is a good thing. It gets a little long winded towards the end but I keep coming back to it anyway. A House Is Not A Home stands out as an album highlight and it follows up nicely with Kingston, a lovely slice of melancholy with string quartet intact. The track that follows after, Working to Work, is up in the playlist but here it is again. Tones of Town should be in U.S. stores on January 21 and it'll be worth looking into.
